So I thought I would add what I'm getting...
So I'm going to do a short video of the car stuff at my house soon, I'm just waiting for one more package to arrive. After that package, then I just get nitpicky and maybe order one more thing to make the whole thing cleaner...but, for now, while I wait for one more part, this is what I play with. I do stills, but a lot more video....
Obligatory carbon fiber and aluminium for lightness and strength. Definitely not built for turns though.
For anyone not familiar, this is a follow focus rig, minus the actual follow focus knob. For those who do know, if you want my parts list, I'd be happy to share if you ask. Total cost was give or take $170 for the setup as it was all bought. Now that I know the best vendors, there are some different components that might work better for others, but this is what I wanted. Full kits are available for around ~$270, but for a little comparison shopping, I think I did pretty good, and it accommodates my equipment much better. I have to make a shorter cable for the Sennheiser because that I didn't plan for it to go there, but it works out so much better (but that extra cable kills me). I also think I'm going to mount the Rode NTG2 opposite the Sennheiser, so that cable may actually get routed through the plate. I want the camera to be able to literally pop right off for stills, and then just bolt on and plug in for video again, I just wanted to get the rig together first.
Currently attached is a Sigma 50mm f1.4. My real lenses are only Sigma. I just don't like any other brand. I also have Holga and Lens Baby toys though. If I get my wish, I'll be going to at least a couple Cars & Coffee events with JBH when it warms up, so expect photos and videos when the time comes. All my video gear actually fits in the trunk of the SL600 (and oh how sweet that is).

Do you always use a tripod or do you have a way to hand hold comfortably?

The follow focus will be new for me, but because of the shape of the beachtek, it's really not hard to hold it comfortably. The weight it pretty even as well. I always at least have a monopod in the car though, because I have bad shoulders, and it doesn't take long for me to get too tired to hold it. The monopod is great because you still have a lot of mobility, and the added bonus of not tripping everyone else in the process. I do keep a tripod in the car as well. Both are Manfrotto, the tripod is a 475B, monopod is the MM394.
The 475B is brutish tripod, but it goes along with a 4 foot Rhino Slider Pro, and I need some serious load capacity...
